Welcome to Monetta Asparagus Farm! We are a fifth generation family of asparagus farmers ran by the Andrew Fallaw family. Our asparagus roots go back to the first World War and the height of the South Carolina asparagus boom that saw Monetta labeled the "Asparagus Capital of the World!" Articles I have say our family has had asparagus ties dating back to 1913 but needless to say, those days saw the vast majority of the land in this small southern town covered in asparagus fields and train box cars were loaded daily with product named "Captain" and "Majors" that took the place of Choice (Small grade spears) and Colossal (Large grade spears) headed overseas to feed our boys in the war effort. Along side the Watsons and other prominent local farming names, our family were members of the Monetta Asparagus Growers Association that was hundreds of farmers strong in its height. The asparagus varieties have changed to higher yield  hybrids (Classic varieties such as Mary Washington to Jersey Strands produced by Rutgers University) but asparagus has stayed in our family for all these years while it became an unprofitable venture for all other local farmers. The vast majority of asparagus production domestically has waned while internationally it has flourished in countries such as Peru and China. There remains nothing quite like fresh local asparagus which we aim to provide for our patrons for generations to come. We hope our diligence in excellence is evident to all that consume our product.
